Jazz and Commercial Drums
Michael Meloy, a University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music Grad in 1978, studied Classical Percussion with world renown Snare Drummer and then Principal Percussionist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, William Platt and later with Richard Jensen, also a CSO percussionist. After completing four years of Classical Percussion studies, he then studied Jazz drums with the then CSO Symphony Jazz Septet drummer, Jim Seward.
Mr. Meloy boasts a professional playing career spanning 35 years and includes an impressive resume of national and international artists, touring groups, and commercial recording projects. Known for his ability to perform a wide variety of styles and playing situations, Mr. Meloy has toured internationally with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, toured nationally with entertainer Red Skelton, and performed and recorded locally with the great Frank Vincent and Lynne Scott. Mr. Meloy has shared the stage with some of the top names in jazz including Eddie Harris, Barney Kessel, comedians Bob Hope, Rodney Dangerfield and Phyllis Diller, and vocal groups the 5th Dimension and the Serendipity Singers.
A consummate educator familiar with the rigors of music education in secondary school, Mr. Meloy brings his broad spectrum of playing experience to the classroom and the private studio, educating hundreds of young musicians and music supporters over the years. Having successfully won a grant in 2002, Mr. Meloy also has a proven track record in curricular development and incorporating World Music Percussion and cultures/styles in his teaching.
Mr. Meloy is currently the Adjunct Professor of Jazz Drumming at Northern Kentucky University.
